Atthakatha Book 39 : PALI ROMAN Ja.A.5 chakka-dasakanipata

                     Tundilajatakam
     navacchaddaketi idam sattha jetavane viharanto ekam maranabhirukabhikkhum
arabbha kathesi.
     So kira savatthivasi kulaputto sasane pabbajitva marana-
bhiruko ahosi. Appamattakampi sakhacalanam dandakapatanam sakuna-
catuppadasaddam va annam va saddam tatharupam sutva maranabhayatajjito
hutva kucchiyam pavitthasadiso viya kampento vicarati. Bhikkhu dhammasabhayam
katham samutthapesum avuso asukabhikkhu kira maranabhiruko appamattakampi
saddam sutva viravanto vicarati palayati imesanca sattanam
maranameva dhuvam jivitam adhuvanti yoniso manasikatabbanti. Sattha
agantva kaya nuttha bhikkhave etarahi kathaya sannisinnati
pucchitva imaya namati vutte tam bhikkhum pakkosapetva saccam
kira tvam bhikkhu maranabhirukoti ama bhanteti tena patinnate na
Bhikkhave idaneva pubbepesa maranabhirukoyevati vatva atitam ahari
     atite baranasiyam brahmadatte rajjam karente bodhisatto
sukariya kucchimhi patisandhim ganhi. Sukari paripunnagabbha dve
potake vijayi. Sa ekadivasam te gahetva ekasmim avate
nipajji. Atheka baranasigamadvaravasini mahallika itthi
kappasakkhettato pacchipuram kappasam adaya yatthiya bhumim akotenti
agacchi. Sukari tam saddam sutva maranabhayena puttake chaddetva
palayi. Mahallika sukarapotake disva puttasannam patilabhitva
pacchiyam pakkhipitva gharam netva jetthassa mahatundilo kanitthassa
cullatundiloti namam katva te puttake viya posesi. Te
aparabhage vaddhitva thulasarira ahesum. Mahallika ime no
mulena dehiti vuccamanapi putta meti vatva kassaci na deti.
Athekasmim chanakale dhutta suram pivanta mamse khine kuto
nu kho mamsam labhissamati vimamsanta mahallikaya gehe sukaranam
atthibhavam natva suram gahetva tattha gantva amma mulam
gahetva ekam no sukaram dehiti ahamsu. Sa alam tata
putta me ete puttam nama mamsam khadanatthaya kinantanam dadanta
nama na atthiti patikkhipi. Dhutta amma manussanam sukara
nama putta na honti te dehi noti punappunam yacantapi
alabhitva mahallikam suram payetva mattakale amma sukarehi kim
karissasi mulam gahetva paribbayam karohiti tassa hatthe kahapane
Thapayimsu. Sa kahapane gahetva tata mahatundilam datum na
sakkomi cullatundilam pana ganhathati aha. Kaham soti.
Asukasmim gaccheti. Saddamassa dehiti. Aharam na passamiti.
Dhutta mulenekam bhattapatim aharapesum. Mahallika tam gahetva
dvare thapitam sukaradonim puretva donisamipe atthasi. Timsamatta
dhutta pasahattha tattheva atthamsu. Mahallika tata cullatundila
ehi reti tassa saddamadasi. Tam sutva mahatundilo ettakam
kalam mama matara na cullatundilassa saddo dinnapubbo
manneva pathamam saddayati avassam ajja amhakam bhayam uppannam
bhavissatiti annasi. So tam amantetva tata mama mata
tam pakkosati gaccha tava janahiti. So gaccha nikkhamitva
bhattadonisamipe tesam thitabhavam disva ajja me maranam uppannanti
maranabhayatajjito nivattetva kampamano bhatu santikam gantva
santharetum nasakkhi kampamano paribbhamati. Mahatundilo tam
disva tata tvam pana ajja pavedhasi pavisanatthanam olokesi
kim nametam karositi pucchi. So attana ditthakaranam kathento
pathamam gathamaha
               navacchaddake dani diyyati
               punnayam doni suvamini thita
               bahuko jano pasapaniko
               no ca kho me patibhati bhunjitunti.
     Tattha navacchaddake dani diyyatiti bhatika pubbe amhakam
kundakayagu va acamabhattam va diyyati ajja ca navacchaddakam
navakaram dani diyyati. Punnayam doniti ayam amhakam bhattadoni
suddhabhattassa punna. Suvamini thitati ayyapi no tassapi
doniya santike thita. Bahuko janoti na kevalanca annopi
bahuko jano pasapaniko thito. No ca kho me patibhatiti
ayam evam etesam thitabhavopi idam bhattam bhunjitumpi mayham na patibhati
na ruccatiti attho.
     Tam sutva mahasatto tata cullatundila mama kira mata
ettheva sukare posenta nama yadattham poseti svassa attho
ajja matthakam patto tvam ma cintayiti vatva madhurasarena buddhalilaya
dhammam desento dve gatha abhasi
                 tasasi bhamasi lenamicchasi
                 atanosi kuhim gamissasi
                 appossukko bhunja tundila
                 mamsatthaya posiyamase.
                 Ogaha rahadam akaddamam
                 sabbasedamalam pavahaya
                 ganhahi navam vilepanam
                 yassa gandho na kadaci chijjatiti.
     Tassa dasa paramiyo avajjetva mettaparamim purecarikam
katva pathamam padam udaharantasseva saddo sakalam dvadasayojanikam
baranasim ajjhottharitva gato. Sutasutakkhaneyeva rajauparajadayo
adim katva baranasivasino agamimsu. Anagatapi gehe thitava
sunimsu. Rajapurisa gacche bhinditva bhumim samam katva valikam
okirimsu. Dhuttanam suramado chijji. Pase chaddetva dhammam
sunamanava atthamsu. Mahallikayapi mado chijji. Mahasatto
mahajanassa majjhe cullatundilassa desanam arabbha kathesi.
     Tattha tasasi bhamasiti maranabhayena uttasasi teneva kilamanto
bhamasi. Lenamicchasiti patittham olokesi. Atanositi tata
pubbe amhakam mata patisaranam ahosi sa ajja nirapekkha
amhe chaddesi idani kuhim gamissasi. Ogahati ogaham.
Ayameva va patho. Pavahayati pavahehi. Na chijjatiti na
nassati. Idam vuttam hoti sace maranato tasasi akaddamam
pokkharanim otaritva tava sarire sabbam sedanca malanca pavahetva
niccasurabhigandhavilepanam vilimpahiti.
     Tam sutva cullatundilo mayham bhata evam vadeti amhakanca
vamso pokkharanim otaritva nahanam sarirato sedamalapavahanam puranam
vilepanam haretva navasurabhigandhavilepanaggahananca kisminci
kale natthi kim nu kho sandhaya bhata mam evam ahati pucchanto
catuttham gathamaha
                 Katamo nu rahado akaddamo
                 kimsu sedamalanti vuccati
                 katamanca navavilepanam
                 kassa gandho na kadaci chijjatiti.
     Tam sutva mahasatto tenahi ohitasoto sunahiti buddhalilaya
dhammam desento ima gatha abhasi
                 dhammo rahado akaddamo
                 papam sedamalanti vuccati
                 silanca navavilepanam
                 tassa gandho na kadaci chijjati.
                 Nandanti sariraghatino
                 na ca nandanti sariradharino
                 punnaya punnamasiya
                 ramamanava jahanti jivitanti.
     Tattha dhammoti panca silani dasa silani tini sucaritani
sattatimsabodhipakkhiyadhamma amatamahanibbananti sabbopesa dhammo nama.
Akaddamoti ragadosamohamanaditthikilesakaddamanam abhavena akaddamo.
Imina sesadhammato nibattetva nibbanameva dasseti. Yavata
bhikkhave dhamma sankhata va asankhata va virago tesam dhammanam
aggamakkhayati yadidam madanimmadano pipasavinayo alayasamugghato
vattupacchedo tanhakkhayo virago nirodho nibbananti hi vuttam.
Tadeva dassento tata cullatundila aham nibbanam talakam rahadota
kathemi jatijarabyadhimaranadini hi tattheva natthi sacepi maranato
muncitukamo nibbanagaminipatipadam ganhahiti upanissayapaccayavasena
kira bodhisatto evam kathesi. Papam sedamalanti tata cullatundila
papam sedamalasadisatta sedamalanti poranakapanditehi kathitam. Tam
panetam ekavidhena papam yadidam manopadoso duvidhena papam papakanca
silam papika ca ditthi tividhena papam tini duccaritani catubbidhena
papam cattari agatigamanani pancavidhena papam panca cetokhila
chabbidhena papam cha agarava sattavidhena papam satta asaddhamma
atthavidhena papam attha micchatta navavidhena papam nava aghatavatthuni
dasavidhena papam dasa akusalakammapatha bahuvidhena papam rago doso
mohoti evam ekadukatikkadivasena vibhatta akusala dhamma. Iti
sabbampetam papam sariranissitasedamalasadisanti panditehi kathitam. Silanti
pancasilam dasasilam catuparisuddhasilam. Idam tata silam catujatikagandha-
vilepanasadisanti vadanti. Tassati tassa silassa gandho tisu vayesu
na kadaci chijjati sakalalokam pattharitva gacchati.
                 Na pupphagandho pativatameti
                 na candanam tagara mallika va
                 satanca gandho pativatameti
                 sabba disa sappuriso pavayati.
       Candanam tagaram vapi           uppalam atha vassiki
       etesam gandhajatanam         silagandho anuttaro
       appamatto ayam gandho        yvayam tagaracandani
       yo ca silavatam gandho         vati devesu uttamoti.
Nandanti sariraghatinoti tata cullatundila ime annana manussa
madhuramamsam khadissama puttadarampi khadapessamati panatipatam karonta
nandanti tussanti. Panatipato asevito bhavito bahulikato
nirayasamvattaniko hoti tiracchanayoni .pe. Pittivisayasamvattaniko hoti
yo sabbalahuko panatipatassa vipako so manussabhutassa appayuka-
samvattaniko hotiti imam panatipatadinavam na jananti ajananta
       madhuva mannati balo         yava papam na paccati
       yada ca paccati papam         atha (balo) dukkham nigacchatiti
madhurasannino hutva
       caranti bala dummedha       amitteneva attana
       karonti papakam kammam         yam hoti katukapphalanti
ettakampi na jananti
       na tam kammam katam sadhu         yam hoti katukapphalam
       yassa assumukho rodam         vipakam patisevatiti.
Na ca nandanti sariradharinoti tata cullatundila ye panete
sariradharino satta te attano marane agacchante thapetva
sihamigarajahatthajaniyaassajaniyakhinasave avasesa bodhisattam adim katva
Abhayanta nama natthi.
       Sabbe tasanti dandassa        sabbesam jivitam piyam
       attanam upamam katva         na haneyya na ghatayeti.
Punnayati gunapunnaya. Punnamasiyati punnacandassa yuttaya
masiya puretva thitaya. Tada kira punnamasiuposathadivaso
hoti. Ramamanava jahanti jivitanti tata cullatundila ma soci
ma paridevi maranam nama na tavayeva avasesanampi atthi te
bhayanti yesam abbhantare siladiguna natthi mayam pana silacara-
sampanna punnavanto tasma amhadisa satta ramamanava jahanti
jivitanti.
     Evam mahasatto madhurasarena buddhalilaya dhammam desesi. Maha-
janakaya satasahassangulipotana ca celukkhepa ca pavattayimsu.
Sadhukarasaddapunno antalikkho ahosi. Baranasiraja bodhisattam
rajjena pujetva mahallikaya yasam datva ubhopi te gahetva
gandhodakena nahapetva vatthani nivasapetva gandhadihi vilimpa-
petva givasu maniratanani pilandhapetva nagaram netva puttatthane
thapetva mahantena parivarena patijaggi. Bodhisatto ranno ca
parijanassa ca panca silani adasi. Sabbe baranasivasino ca
kasikaratthavasino ca dasa silani panca silani rakkhimsu. Maha-
sattopi nesam pakkhadivasesu dhammam desesi vinicchaye nisiditva atte
tiresi. Tasmim dharamane kutaka nama nahesum. Aparabhage raja
Kalamakasi. Mahasattopi tassa sarirapariharam karetva vinicchaya-
potthakam likkhapetva imam potthakam olokenta attam tireyyathati
vatva mahajanassa dhammam desetva appamadena ovaditva
sabbesam rodantanam paridevantananceva saddhim cullatundilena arannam
pavisi. Tada bodhisattassa ovado satthi vassasahassani pavattati.
     Sattha imam dhammadesanam aharitva saccani pakasetva jatakam
samodhanesi saccapariyosane so maranabhiruko bhikkhu sotapattiphale
patitthahi. Tada raja anando ahosi cullatundilo maranabhiruko
bhikkhu parisa buddhaparisa mahatundilo pana ahamevati.
