Atthakatha Book 39 : PALI ROMAN Ja.A.5 chakka-dasakanipata

                        Kanhajatakam
     kanho vatayam purisoti idam sattha kapilavatthum upanissaya
nigrodharame viharanto sitapatukammam arabbha kathesi.
     Tada kira sattha sayanhasamaye nigrodharame bhikkhusanghaparivuto
janghaviharam anucankamanto annatarasmim padese sitapatukammam akasi.
Anandatthero ko nu kho hetu ko paccayo bhagavato sitapatukammaya
na ahetu tathagata sitam patukaronti pucchissamiti
tavati anjalim paggayha sitakaranam pucchi. Athassa sattha
bhutapubbam ananda kanho nama isi ahosi so imasmim bhumippadese
vihasi jhayi jhanarato tassa silatejena sakkassa bhavanam kampiti
sitakaranam vatva tassa vatthuno apakatatta therena yacito
atitam ahari
     atite baranasiyam brahmadatte rajjam karente baranasiyam
ekena asitikotivibhavena aputtakena brahmanena silam samadayitva
putte patthite bodhisatto tassa brahmaniya kucchismim nibbatti.
Kalavannatta panassa namaggahanadivase kanhakumarotissa namam
karimsu. So solasavassakale manipatima viya sobhaggappatto hutva
pitara sippuggahanatthaya pesito takkasilayam sabbasippani uggahetva
paccagacchi. Atha nam pita anurupena darena samyojesi. So
aparabhage matapitunam accaye sabbam issariyam patipajji. Athekadivasam
Ratanakotthagarani viloketva varapallankamajjhagato suvannapatam
aharapetva ettakam dhanam asukenapi uppaditam ettakam dhanam
asukenati pubbanatihi suvannapate likkhitani akkharani disva
cintesi yehi imam dhanam uppaditam te na pannayanti dhanameva
pannayati ekopi imam dhanam gahetva gato nama nahosi
na kho pana sakka dhanabhandikam bandhitva paralokam netum panca-
sadharanabhavena hi asarakassa dhanassa danam saro bahurogasadharana-
bhavena asarakassa kayassa silavantesu abhivadanadikammam saro
aniccatabhibhutassa asarakassa jivitassa aniccadivasena vipassanayogo
saro tasma asarehi bhogehi saraggahanattham danam dassamiti
so asana vutthaya ranno santikam gantava rajanam apucchitva
mahadanam pavattesi. Yava sattama divasa dhanam aparikkhiyamanam
disva kim me dhanena yava mam jara nabhibhavati tavadeva
pabbajitva abhinna ca samapattiyo ca nibbattetva brahmaloka-
parayano bhavissamiti cintetva gehe sabbadvarani vivarapetva
dinnam me harantuti asucim viya jigucchanto vatthukame pahaya tassa
mahajanassa rodantassa paridevantasseva nagara nikkhamitva himavantap-
padesam pavisitva isipabbajjam pabbajitva attano vasanatthaya
ramaniyam bhumibhagam oloketva imam thanam patva idha vasissamiti
ekam indavarunirukkham gocaragamam katva adhitthaya tasseva rukkhassa
mule vihasi gamantasenasanam pahaya aranniko ahosi pannasalam
Akatva rukkhamuliko ahosi abbhokasiko nesajjiko sace nipajjati
bhumiyamyeva nipajjati dantamusaliko hutva anaggipakkameva khadati
thusaparikkhittam kinci na khadati ekadivase ekavarameva khaditva
ekasaniko ahosi chamayam pathaviapatejavayusamo hutva ete
ettake dhutangagune samadaya vasati. Imasmim kira jatake
bodhisatto paramappiccho ahosi. So nacirasseva abhinna
ca samapattiyo ca nibbattetva jhanakilam kilanto tattheva vasati.
Phalaphalatthampi annattha na gacchati. Rukkhassa phalitakale phalam khadati
pupphitakale puppham khadati sapattakale pattam khadati nippattakale
papatikam khadati. Evam paramasantuttho hutva imasmim thane ciram
vasi. So ekadivasam pubbanhasamaye tassa rukkhassa pakkani
phalani ganhi. Ganhanto pana loluppacarena utthaya annasmim
padese na ganhati yathanisinnova hattham pasaretva hatthapasathane
thitani phalani samharati. Tesupi manapamanapam avicinitva sampatta-
sampattameva ganhati. Evam paramasantutthassa tassa silatejena
sakkassa pandukambalasilasanam unhakaram dassesi. Tam kira sakkassa
ayukkhayena va unham hoti punnakkhayena va annasmim va
mahanubhave satte tam thanam patthente dhammikanam va mahiddhikanam
samanabrahmananam silatejena unham ahosi. Sakko ko nu
kho mam thana cavetukamoti avajjitva imasmim padese vasantam
kanham isim rukkhaphalani uccinantam disava cintesi ayam isi
Ghoratapo paramajitindriyo imam dhammakathaya sihanadam nadapetva
sukaranam sutva varena santappetva imassa rukkham dhuvaphalam katva
agamissamiti so mahantena anubhavena sigham otaritva tasmim
rukkhamule tassa pitthipasse thatva attano avanne kathite
kujjhissati nu kho noti vimamsanto pathamam gathamaha
        kanho vatayam puriso      kanham bhunjati bhojanam
        kanhe bhumippadesasmim      na mayham manaso piyoti.
     Tattha kanhanti kalavannam. Bhojananti rukkhaphalabhojanam.
     Kanho isi sakkassa vacanam sutva ko nu kho maya saddhim
kathetiti dibbacakkhuna upadharento sakkoti natva anivattitva
anoloketvava dutiyam gathamaha
        na kanho tapasa hoti     antosaro hi brahmano
        yasmim papani kammani     sa ve kanho sujampatiti.
     Tattha tapasati tapena kanho nama na hotiti attho. Anto-
saroti abbhantare silasamadhipannavimuttivimuttinanadassanasarehi
samannagato evarupo hi bahitapapatta brahmano nama hoti.
Sa veti yasmim pana papani kammani atthi so yatthakatthaci kule
jatopi yenakenaci sariravannena samannagatopi kalakoyeva.
     Evanca pana vatva imesam sattanam kanhabhavakarani papakammani
ekavidhadibhedehi vittharetva sabbanipi tani garahitva siladayo
gune pasamsitva akase candam utthapento viya sakkassa
Dhammam desesi. Sakko tassa dhammakatham sutva pamudito somanassajato
mahasattam varena nimantento tatiyam gathamaha
        etasmim te sulapite      patirupe subhasite
        varam brahmana te dammi    yamkinci manasicchasiti.
     Tattha etasminti yam idam taya sabbannubuddhena viya sulapitam
tasmim sulapite tumhakam anucchavikatta patirupe subhasite yamkinci manasa
icchasi sabbam te yam varam icchitam patthitam tam dammiti attho.
     Tam sutva mahasatto cintesi ayam kinnu kho attano
avanne kathite kujjhissati noti mam vimamsanto mayham chavivannanca
bhojananca vasanatthananca garahitva idani mayham akujjhanabhavam
natva pasannacitto varam deti mam kho panesa sakkissariyabrahmis-
sariyanamatthaya brahmacariyam caratiti manneyya tatrassa nikkankhabhavattham
mayham paresu kodho va doso va ma uppajjatu parasampattiyam
lobho va paresu sineho va ma uppajjatu majjhattova bhaveyyanti
ime maya cattaro vare gahetum vatatatiti so tassa nikkankhabhavatthaya
cattaro vare ganhanto catuttham gathamaha
        varanca me ado sakka       sabbabhutanamissara
        sunikkodham suniddosam         nillobham vuttimattano
        nisnehamabhikankhami          ete me caturo vareti.
     Tattha varanca me ado sakkati sace tvam mayham varam
adasi. Sunikkodhanti akujjhanavasena sutthu nikkodham. Suniddosanti
Adussanavasena sutthu niddosam. Nillobhanti parasampattisu nillobham.
Vuttimattanoti evarupam attano pavuttim. Nisnehanti puttadhitasu
va savinnanakesu dhanadhannadisu va avinnanakesu attano
santakesupi nisneham apagatalobham. Abhikankhamiti evarupam imehi
catuhangehi samannagatam attano vuttim abhikankhami. Ete me
caturo vareti ete nikkodhadike caturo vare mayham dehiti vadati.
Kim panesa na janati yatha na sakka sakkassa santike varam
gahetva varena kodhadayo haritunti no na janati sakke
kho pana varam dadante na ganhamiti vacanam na yuttanti ca tassa ca
nikkankhabhavatthaya ganhiti.
     Tato sakko cintesi kanhapandito varam ganhanto ativiya
anavajje vare ganhi etesu varesu gunadosam etameva pucchissamiti.
Atha nam pucchanto pancamam gathamaha
        kim nu kho kodhe va dose va   lobhe sneheva brahmana
        adinavam sampassasi             tam me akkhahi pucchitoti.
     Tassattho brahmana kinnu kho tvam kodhe va dose va
lobhe va snehe va adinavam sampassasi tvam tava me pucchito
akkhahi na hi mayam ettha adinavam janamati.
     Atha nam mahasatto tenahi sunahiti vatva catasso gatha
abhasi
        Appo hutva bahu hoti         vaddhate so akhantijo
        asangi bahupayaso           tasma kodham na rocaye.
        Dutthassa pharusa vaca          paramaso anantara
        tato pani tato dando         satthassa parama gati
        doso kodhasamutthano          tasma dosam na rocaye.
        Alobhasahasakara             nikati vancanani ca
        dissanti lobhadhammesu           tasma lobham na rocaye.
        Snehasanganthita gantha         senti manomaya puthu
        te bhusam upatapenti           tasma sneham na rocayeti.
     Tattha akhantijoti so anadhivasakajatikassa akhantito jato
kodho pathamam paritto hutva paccha bahu hoti aparaparam vaddhati.
Tassa vaddhanabhavo khantivadijatakena ceva culladhammapalajatakena ca
vannetabbo. Apica tissamaccassa cettha bhariyam adim katva
sabbam janam saparijanam maretva paccha attano maritavatthum kathetabbam.
Asangiti asangakarano yassa uppajjati tam asattam laggitam karoti
tanca vatthum vissajjetva gantum na deti nivattetva akkosanadini
kareti. Bahupayasoti bahuna kayikacetasikadukkhasankhatena upayasena
kilamathena samannagato. Kodham nissaya hi kodhavasena ariyadisu
katavitikkama ditthadhamme ceva samparaye ca vadhabandhanavippatisaradini
ceva pancavidhabandhanakammakaranadini ca bahuni dukkhani anubhavantiti
Kodho bahupayaso nama. Tasmati yasma esa evam anekadinavo
tasma kodham na rocemi. Dutthassati kujjhanalakkhanena kodhena
kujjhitva aparabhage dussanalakkhanena dosena dutthassa pathamam tava
pharusavaca nicchareti. Vacaya anantara akaddhanavikaddhanavasena
hatthaparamaso. Tato anantara upakkamanavasena pani pavattati.
Tato dandappaharo. Atikkamitva pana ekatodharaubhatodharassa
satthassa parama gati sabbapariyanta satthanipphatti hoti. Yada hi
satthena parampi jivita voropetva paccha teneva satthena attanam
jivita voropeti tada doso matthakam patto hoti. Doso
kodhasamutthanoti yatha anambilam takkam va kanjikam va parinamavasena
parivattitva ambilam hoti tam ekajatikampi samanam ambilam
anambilanti nana vuccati tatha pubbakale kodho parinametva
aparabhage doso hoti so akusalamulattena ekajatikopi samano
kodho dosoti nana vuccati. Yatha ca anambilato ambilam evam sopi
kodhato samutthatiti kodhasamutthano. Tasmati yasma evam
anekadinavo doso tasma dosampi na rocemi. Alobhasahasakarati
divadivasena gamam paharitva vilumpanani ca avudham sarire thapetva idam
nama me dehiti sahasakara ca. Nikati vancanani cati patirupakam
dassetva parassa haranam nikati nama. Sa asuvannameva suvannanti
kutakahapananca kahapanoti datva parasantakaggahane datthabba.
Patibhanavasena pana upayakusalataya parasantakaggahanam vancanam nama.
Tassevam pavatti datthabba eko kira ujujatiko gamikapuriso
arannato sasakam anetva naditire thapetva nahayitum otari.
Atheko dhutto tam sasakam sise katva nahayitum otinno. Itaro
uttaritva sasakam apassanto itocito ca olokesi. Tamenam
dhutto kim bho olokesiti vatva imasmim me thane sasako
thapito tam na passamiti vutte andhabala tvam na janasi sasaka
nama naditire thapita palayantiti passa aham attano sasakam sise thapetvava
nahayamiti. So appatibhanataya evam bhavissatiti pakkami. Eka-
kahapanena migapotakam gahetva puna tam datva dvikahapanagghanakassa
migassa gahitavatthumpettha kathetabbam. Dissati lobhadhammesuti sakka
ime lobhadayo papadhamma lobhasabhavesu lobhabhibhutesu sattesu
dissanti na hi aluddha evarupani kammani karonti evam
lobho anekadinavo tasma lobhampi na rocemi. Snehasanganthita
ganthati arammanesu alliyanalakkhanena snehena sanganthita punappunam
uppadanavasena ghatita suttena pupphani viya ganthani nanappakaresu
arammanesu pavattamana abhijjhakayagantha. Senti manomaya puthuti
tesu arammanesu uppanna suvannadihi nibbattani suvannadimayani
abharanadini viya manena nibbattatta manomaya abhijjhakayagantha
tesu arammanesu senti. Te bhusam upatapentiti te bhusam anussayita
balavanta sanjananta bhusam upatapenti atikilamenti. Tesam pana
bhusam upatapane sallaviddhova ruppatiti gathaya vatthu piyajatika
Kho gahapati sokaparidevadukkhadomanassupayasa piyappabhutika piyato
jayate soko pemato jayate sokoti adini suttani ca
aharitabbani. Apica sumangalabodhisattassa darake datva balavasokena
hadayam phali. Vessantarabodhisattassa mahantam domanassam udapadi.
Evam puritaparaminam mahasattanam pemam upatapanam karotiyeva ayam
snehe adinavo yasma hoti tasma snehampi na rocemiti.
     Sakko panhavisajjanam sutva kanhapandita taya ime
panha buddhalilaya viya sadhukam kathita ativiya tutthosmi tena
aparampi varam ganhahiti vatva dasamam gathamaha
        etasmim te sulapite      patirupe subhasite
        varam brahmana te dammi    yamkinci manasicchasiti.
     Tato bodhisatto anantaram gathamaha
        varance me ado sakka    sabbabhutanamissara
        aranne me viharato      niccam ekaviharino
        abadha ma uppajjeyyum  antarayakara bhusati.
     Tattha antarayakara bhusati imassa me tapokammassa antarayakara.
     Tam sutva sakko kanhapandito varam ganhanto na amisasannissitam
varam ganhati tapokammanissitameva ganhatiti cintetva bhiyyosomattaya
pasanno aparampi varam dadamano itaram gathamaha
        Etasmim te sulapite      patirupe subhasite
        varam brahmana te dammi    yamkinci manasicchasiti.
     Bodhisattopi varamgahanapadesena tassa dhammam desento osanagathamaha
        varance me ado sakka    sabbabhutanamissara
        na mano va sariram va     mankute sakka kassaci
        kadaci upahannetha        etam sakka varam dehiti.
     Tattha mano vati manodvaram va. Sariram vati kayadvaram
va. Vacidvarampi etesam gahanena gahitamevati veditabbam.
Mankuteti mama karana. Upahannethati upaghateyya parisuddham
assa. Idam vuttam hoti sakka devaraja mama karana mam
nissaya mama anatthakamataya kassaci sakkassa kisminci kale
idam tividhampi kammadvaram na upahannetha panatipatadihi dasahi
akusalakammapathehi vimuttam parisuddhameva bhaveyyati.
     Iti mahasatto chasupi thanesu varam ganhanto nekkhammanissitameva
ganhi. Janati cesa sariram nama byadhidhammam na tam sakka
sakkena abyadhidhammam katum sattananca tisu dvaresu parisuddhatta-
bhavo na sakka sakkena attayattova evam santepi tassa
dhammadesanattham ime vare ganhi. Sakkopi tam rukkham madhuramva phalam
katva mahasattam vanditva sirasi anjalim patitthapetva aroga
idheva vasathati vatva sakatthanameva gato. Bodhisattopi
Aparihinajjhano brahmalokupago ahosi.
     Sattha imam dhammadesanam aharitva ananda pubbe maya
nivutthabhumippadesoti vatva jatakam samodhanesi tada sakko anuruddho
ahosi kanhapandito pana ahamevati.
