44. 7. 1.

(63) Kalyāṇamittaṃ 1 –– Virtuous Companions 1

1. I heard thus. At one time the Blessed One lived in the monastery offered by Anāthapiṇḍika in Jeta’s Grove in Sāvatthi, and addressed the monks from there:

2. “Monks, a single thing is of much help for the arising of the Noble Eightfold Path, to the monk. What is the single thing? It is virtuous companionship.

3. “Monks, for the development and making much of the Noble Eightfold Path, the monk should expect virtuous companionship. Monks, how does the monk develop and make much of the Noble Eightfold Path with a virtuous companion?

4. “Here, monks, the monk develops right view relying on seclusion, non-excitement, for ceasing and to give up in the end with maturity ... re ... and the monk develops right concentration relying on seclusion, non-excitement, for ceasing and to give up in the end with maturity. Monks, in this manner the monk develops and makes much of the Noble Eightfold Path with a virtuous companion.”

(64) Sīlaṃ 1 –– Virtues 1

Monks, in this manner the monk develops and makes much of the Noble Eightfold Path for the accomplishment of virtues.”

(65) Chanda 1 –– Interest 1

3. “Monks, for the development and making much of the Noble Eightfold Path, the monk should expect the accomplishment of interest. Monks, how does the monk develop and make much of the Noble Eightfold Path with the accomplishment of interest

4. “Here, monks, the monk develops right view relying on seclusion, non-excitement, for ceasing and to give up in the end with maturity ... re ... and the monk develops right concentration relying on seclusion, non-excitement, for ceasing and to give up in the end with maturity. Monks, in this manner the monk develops and makes much of the Noble Eightfold Path with the accomplishment of interest.”

(66) Atta 1 –– Self 1

1. I heard thus. At one time the Blessed One lived in the monastery offered by Anāthapiṇḍika in Jeta’s Grove in Sāvatthi, and addressed the monks from there:

2. “Monks, a single thing is of much help for the arising of the Noble Eightfold Path to the monk. What is the single thing? The accomplishment of self is the single thing.

3. “Monks, for the development and making much of the Noble Eightfold Path, the monk should expect the accomplishment of self. Monks, how does the monk develop and make much of the Noble Eightfold Path for the accomplishment of self.

4. “Here, monks, the monk develops right view relying on seclusion, non-excitement, for ceasing and to give up in the end with maturity ... re ... and the monk develops right concentration relying on seclusion, non-excitement, for ceasing and to give up in the end with maturity. Monks, in this manner the monk develops and makes much of the Noble Eightfold Path to accomplish the self.”

Monks, in this manner the monk develops and makes much of the Noble Eightfold Path for the accomplishment diligence.”

(69) Yoniso 1 –– Wise Thinking 1

3. “Monks, for the development and making much of the Noble Eightfold Path, the monk should expect the accomplishment of wise thinking. Monks, how does the monk develop and make much of the Noble Eightfold Path for the accomplishment wise thinking?

4. “Here, monks, the monk develops right view relying on seclusion, non-excitement, for ceasing and to give up in the end with maturity ... re ... and the monk develops right concentration relying on seclusion, non-excitement, for ceasing and to give up in the end with maturity. Monks, in this manner the monk develops and makes much of the Noble Eightfold Path for the accomplishment wise thinking.”

(70) Kalyāṇamittatā 2 –– Virtuous Companionship 2

(71) Sīla2 –– Virtues 2
