                  Makkaṭīvatthukathā niṭṭhitā.
     {43-44} Idāni yantaṃ aññampi vatthu uppannaṃ taṃ dassetuṃ tena kho
pana samayenātiādimāha. Tatrāpi ayamanuttānapadavaṇṇanā.
Vesālikāti vesālivāsino. Vajjiputtakāti vajjiraṭṭhe vesāliyaṃ
kulānaṃ puttā. Sāsane kira yo so upaddavo ādīnavo
abbudamuppajji sabbantaṃ vajjiputtake nissāya. Tathāhi devadattopi

Vassasataṃ parinibbute bhagavati uddhammaṃ ubbinayaṃ satthusāsanaṃ dīpesuṃ. Imepi tesaṃyeva ekaccā evaṃ paññattepi sikkhāpade yāvadatthaṃ nahāyiṃsu .pe. Methunaṃ dhammaṃ paṭiseviṃsūti. Ñātibyasanenapīti ettha viasanaṃ byasanaṃ vikkhepo viddhaṃsanaṃ vināsoti sabbametaṃ ekatthaṃ. Ñātīnaṃ byasanaṃ ñātibyasanaṃ. Tena ñātibyasanena. Rājadaṇḍabyādhimaraṇavippavāsanimittena ñātivināsenāti attho. Esa nayo dutiyapadepi. Tatiyapade pana ārogyavināsako rogoeva rogabyasanaṃ. So hi ārogyaṃ byasati vikkhipati vināsetīti byasanaṃ. Rogoeva byasanaṃ rogabyasanaṃ. Tena rogabyasanena. Phuṭṭhāti adhipannā abhibhūtā samannāgatāti attho. Na mayaṃ bhante ānanda buddhagarahinoti bhante ānanda mayaṃ buddhaṃ na garahāma na buddhassa dosaṃ vadema na dhammagarahino na saṅghagarahino. Attagarahino mayanti attānameva mayaṃ garahāma attano dosaṃ vadema. Alakkhikāti nissirikā. Appapuññāti parittapuññā. Vipassakā kusalānaṃ dhammānanti ye aṭṭhattiṃsārammaṇesu vibhattā kusalā dhammā tesaṃ vipassakā. Tato tato ārammaṇato vuṭṭhāya teva dhamme vipassamānāti attho. Pubbarattāpararattanti rattiyā pubbaṃ pubbarattaṃ rattiyā aparaṃ apararattaṃ. Paṭhamayāmañca pacchimayāmañcāti vuttaṃ hoti. Bodhipakkhikānanti bodhissa pakkhe bhavānaṃ. Senāsanesu yuttappayuttā anaññakiccā vihareyyāma. Evamāvusoti thero etesaṃ āsayaṃ ajānanto idaṃ nesaṃ mahāgajjitaṃ sutvā sace ime īdisā bhavissanti sādhūti maññamāno evamāvusoti sampaṭicchi. Aṭṭhānaṃ anavakāsoti ubhayampetaṃ kāraṇapaṭikkhepavacanaṃ. Kāraṇaṃ hi yasmā tattha tadāyattavuttibhāvena phalaṃ tiṭṭhati yasmā cassa taṃ okāso hoti tadāyattavuttibhāvena tasmā ṭhānañca avakāso cāti vuccati. Taṃ paṭikkhipanto āha aṭṭhānametaṃ ānanda anavakāsoti. Etaṃ ṭhānaṃ vā okāso vā natthi. Yaṃ tathāgatoti yena tathāgato vajjīnaṃ vā .pe. Samūhaneyya taṃ kāraṇaṃ natthīti attho. Yadi hi bhagavā etesaṃ labheyyāma upasampadanti yācantānaṃ upasampadaṃ dadeyya evaṃ sante pārājiko hoti asaṃvāsoti paññattaṃ samūhaneyya. Yasmā pana taṃ na samūhanati tasmā aṭṭhānametantiādimāha. So āgato na upasampādetabboti yadi hi evaṃ āgato upasampadaṃ labheyya sāsane agāravo bhaveyya sāmaṇerabhūmiyaṃ pana ṭhito sagāravo bhavissati attatthañca karissatīti ñatvā anukampamānova bhagavā āha so āgato na upasampādetabboti. So āgato upasampādetabboti evaṃ āgato bhikkhubhāve ṭhatvā avipannasīlatāya sāsane sagāravo bhavissati so sati upanissaye na cirasseva uttamatthaṃ pāpuṇissatīti ñatvā upasampādetabboti āha. Paripuṇṇaṃ katvā sikkhāpadaṃ paññāpetukāmo evañca pana bhikkhave imaṃ sikkhāpadaṃ uddiseyyāthāti vatvā yo pana bhikkhu .pe. Asaṃvāsoti paripuṇṇaṃ sikkhāpadaṃ paññāpesi. {45} Idāni tassa atthaṃ vibhajanto yo panāti yo yādisotiādimāha. Tasmiṃ pana sikkhāpade ca sikkhāpadavibhaṅge ca sakale ca vinayavinicchaye kosallaṃ paṭṭhayantena catubbidho vinayo jānitabbo. Catubbidhaṃ hi vinayaṃ mahātherā mahiddhikā nīharitvā pakāsesuṃ dhammasaṅgāhakā purā. Katamaṃ catubbidhaṃ. Suttaṃ suttānulomaṃ ācariyavādaṃ attano matīti yaṃ sandhāya vuttaṃ āhaccapadena kho mahārāja rasena ācariyavaṃsatā adhippāyoti. Ettha hi āhaccapadanti suttaṃ adhippetaṃ. Rasoti suttānulomaṃ. Anulometi akappiyaṃ paṭibāhati taṃ vo kappatīti. Ācariyavādo nāma dhammasaṅgāhakehi pañcahi arahantasatehi ṭhapitā pālivinimuttā okkantikavinicchayappavattā aṭṭhakathātanti. Attano mati nāma suttasuttānulomaācariyavāde muñcitvā anumānena attano anubuddhiyā nayaggāhena upaṭṭhitākārakathanaṃ. Apica suttantābhidhammavinayaṭṭhakathāsu āgato sabbopi theravādo attano mati nāma. Taṃ pana attano matiṃ gahetvā kathentena na daḷhaggāhaṃ gahetvā voharitabbaṃ kāraṇaṃ sallakkhetvā atthena pāliṃ pāliyā ca atthaṃ saṃsandetvā kathetabbaṃ. Attano mati ācariyavāde otāretabbā. Sace tattha otarati ceva sameti ca gahetabbā. Sace neva otarati na sameti na gahetabbā. Ayaṃ hi attano mati nāma sabbadubbalā. Attano matito ācariyavādo balavataro. Ācariyavādopi suttānulome otāretabbo. Tattha otaranto samentoeva gahetabbo itaro na gahetabbo. Ācariyavādato hi suttānulomaṃ balavataraṃ. Suttānulomampi sutte otāretabbaṃ. Tattha otarantaṃ samentameva gahetabbaṃ itaraṃ na gahetabbaṃ. Suttānulomato hi suttameva balavataraṃ. Suttaṃ hi apaṭivattiyaṃ kārakasaṅghasadisaṃ buddhānaṃ ṭhitakālasadisaṃ. Tasmā yadā dve bhikkhū sākacchanti sakavādī suttaṃ gahetvā katheti paravādī suttānulomaṃ. Tehi aññamaññaṃ khepaṃ vā garahaṃ vā akatvā suttānulomaṃ sutte otāretabbaṃ. Anotaranto asamento ca gārayho ācariyavādo na gahetabbo suttasmiṃyeva ṭhātabbaṃ. Dasseti paro kāraṇaṃ na vindati kappiye ṭhātabbaṃ. Atha paro tassa akappiyabhāvasādhakaṃ suttato bahuṃ kāraṇañca vinicchayañca dasseti anena attano gahaṇanti katvā daḷhaṃ ādāya na ṭhātabbaṃ. Sādhūti sampaṭicchitvā akappiyeeva ṭhātabbaṃ. Atha dvinnampi kāraṇacchāyā dissati paṭikkhittabhāvoyeva sādhu akappiye ṭhātabbaṃ. Vinayaṃ hi patvā kappiyākappiyavicāraṇaṃ āgamma rundhitabbaṃ gāḷhaṃ kattabbaṃ sotaṃ pacchinditabbaṃ garukabhāveyeva ṭhātabbaṃ. Atha panāyaṃ akappiyanti gahetvā katheti paro kappiyanti sutte ca suttānulome ca otāretabbaṃ. Sace kappiyaṃ hoti kappiye ṭhātabbaṃ. Sace akappiyaṃ akappiye ṭhātabbaṃ. Athāyaṃ bahūhi suttavinicchayakāraṇehi akappiyabhāvaṃ dasseti paro kāraṇaṃ na vindati akappiye ṭhātabbaṃ. Atha paro bahūhi suttavinicchayakāraṇehi kappiyabhāvaṃ dasseti ayaṃ kāraṇaṃ na vindati kappiye ṭhātabbaṃ. Atha dvinnampi kāraṇacchāyā dissati attano gahaṇaṃ na vissajjetabbaṃ. Yathā cāyaṃ kappiyākappiye ca akappiyakappiye ca vinicchayo vutto evaṃ anāpattiāpattivāde ca āpattānāpattivāde ca lahukagarukāpattivāde ca garukalahukāpattivāde cāpi vinicchayo veditabbo. Nāmamatteyeva hi ettha nānaṃ yojanānaye nānaṃ natthi tasmā na vitthāritaṃ. Evaṃ kappiyākappiyādivinicchaye uppanne yo suttasuttānulomaācariyavādaattanomatīsu atirekakāraṇaṃ labhati tassa vāde ṭhātabbaṃ. Sabbaso pana kāraṇavinicchayaṃ alabhantena suttaṃ

Na vijahitabbaṃ suttasmiṃyeva ṭhātabbanti. Evaṃ tasmiṃ sikkhāpade ca sikkhāpadavibhaṅge ca sakale ca vinayavinicchaye kosallaṃ paṭṭhayantena ayaṃ catubbidho vinayo jānitabbo. Imañca pana catubbidhaṃ vinayaṃ ñatvāpi vinayadharena puggalena tilakkhaṇasamannāgatena bhavitabbaṃ. Tīṇi hi vinayadharassa lakkhaṇāni icchitabbāni. Katamāni tīṇi. Suttañcassa svāgataṃ hoti suppavattitaṃ suvinicchitaṃ suttato anubyañjanasoti idamekaṃ lakkhaṇaṃ. Vinaye kho pana ṭhito hoti asaṃhiroti idaṃ dutiyaṃ. Ācariyaparamparā kho panassa suggahitā hoti sumanasikatā sūpadhāritāti idaṃ tatiyaṃ. Tattha suttannāma sakalaṃ vinayapiṭakaṃ tadassa svāgataṃ hoti suṭṭhu āgataṃ. Suppavattitanti suṭṭhu pavattaṃ paguṇaṃ vācuggataṃ. Suvinicchitaṃ suttato anubyañjanasoti pālito ca paripucchāto ca aṭṭhakathāto ca suvinicchitaṃ hoti kaṅkhācchedaṃ katvā uggahitaṃ. Vinaye kho pana ṭhito hotīti vinaye lajjibhāvena patiṭṭhito hoti. Alajjī hi bahussutopi samāno lābhagarukatāya tantiṃ visaṃvādetvā uddhammaṃ ubbinayaṃ satthusāsanaṃ dīpetvā sāsane mahantaṃ upaddavaṃ karoti saṅghabhedampi saṅgharājimpi uppādeti. Lajjī pana kukkuccako sikkhākāmo jīvitahetupi tantiṃ avisaṃvādetvā dhammameva vinayameva dīpeti satthusāsanaṃ garuṃ katvā ṭhapeti. Tathāhi pubbe mahātherā tikkhattuṃ vācaṃ nicchāresuṃ anāgate lajjī rakkhissati lajjī rakkhissatīti. Evaṃ yo ca lajjī so vinayaṃ ajahanto avokkamanto

Lajjibhāvena vinaye ṭhito hoti patiṭṭhitoti. Asaṃhiroti saṃhiro nāma yo pāliyā heṭṭhato vā uparito vā padapaṭipāṭiyā vā aṭṭhakathāya vā pucchiyamāno vitthunāti vipphandati santiṭṭhituṃ na sakkoti yaṃ yaṃ parena vuccati taṃ taṃ anujānāti sakavādaṃ chaḍḍetvā paravādaṃ gaṇhāti. Yo pana pāliyaṃ vā aṭṭhakathāyaṃ vā heṭṭhūpariyena vā padapaṭipāṭiyā vā pucchimāno na vitthunāti na vipphandati ekekalomaṃ saṇḍāsena gaṇhanto viya evaṃ mayaṃ vadāma evaṃ no ācariyā vadantīti vissajjeti yamhi pāli ca pālivinicchayo ca suvaṇṇabhājane pakkhittasīhavasā viya parikkhayaṃ pariyādānaṃ agacchanto tiṭṭhati ayaṃ vuccati asaṃhiroti. Ācariyaparamparā kho panassa suggahitā hotīti theraparamparā vaṃsaparamparā assa suṭṭhu gahitā hoti. Sumanasikatāti suṭṭhu manasikatā āvajjitamatte ujjalitappadīpo viya hoti. Sūpadhāritāti suṭṭhu upadhāritā pubbāparānusandhito atthato kāraṇato ca upadhāritā. Attano matiṃ pahāya ācariyasuddhiyā vattā hoti mayhaṃ ācariyo asukācariyassa santike uggaṇhi so asukassāti evaṃ sabbaṃ ācariyaparamparaṃ therataraṅgaṃ haritvā yāva upālitthero sammāsambuddhassa santike uggaṇhīti pāpetvā ṭhapeti. Tatopi āharitvā upālitthero sammāsambuddhassa santike uggaṇhi dāsakatthero attano upajjhāyassa upālittherassa soṇakatthero attano upajjhāyassa dāsakattherassa siggavatthero attano

Upajjhāyassa soṇakattherassa moggaliputtatissatthero attano upajjhāyassa siggavattherassa caṇḍavajjittherassa ca evaṃ sabbaṃ ācariyaparamparaṃ therataraṅgaṃ āharitvā attano ācariyaṃ pāpetvā ṭhapeti. Evaṃ uggahitā hi ācariyaparamparā suggahitā hoti. Evaṃ asakkontena pana avassaṃ dve tayo parivaṭṭā uggahetabbā. Sabbapacchimena hi nayena yathā ācariyo ca ācariyācariyo ca pāliñca paripucchañca vadanti tathā ñātuṃ vaṭṭati. Imehi ca pana tīhi lakkhaṇehi samannāgatena vinayadharena vatthuvinicchayatthaṃ sannipatite saṅghe otiṇṇe vatthusmiṃ codakena ca cuditakena ca vutte vattabbe sahasā avinicchinitvāva chaṭṭhānāni oloketabbāni. Katamāni cha. Vatthu oloketabbaṃ mātikā oloketabbā padabhājanīyaṃ oloketabbaṃ tikaparicchedo oloketabbo antarāpatti oloketabbā anāpatti oloketabbā. Vatthuṃ olokentopi hi tiṇena vā paṇṇena vā paṭicchādetvā āgantabbaṃ na tveva naggena āgantabbaṃ yo āgaccheyya āpatti dukkaṭassāti evaṃ ekaccaṃ āpattiṃ passati. So taṃ suttaṃ ānetvā taṃ adhikaraṇaṃ vūpasamessati. Mātikaṃ olokentopi sampajānamusāvāde pācittiyantiādinā nayena pañcannaṃ āpattīnaṃ aññataraṃ āpattiṃ passati. So taṃ suttaṃ ānetvā taṃ adhikaraṇaṃ vūpasamessati. Padabhājanīyaṃ olokentopi akkhayite sarīre methunaṃ dhammaṃ paṭisevati āpatti pārājikassa yebhayyena khayite sarīre

Methunaṃ dhammaṃ paṭisevati āpatti thullaccayassātiādinā nayena sattannaṃ āpattīnaṃ aññataraṃ āpattiṃ passati. So padabhājanīyato suttaṃ ānetvā taṃ adhikaraṇaṃ vūpasamessati. Tikaparicchedaṃ olokentopi tikasaṅghādisesaṃ vā tikapācittiyaṃ vā tikadukkaṭaṃ vā aññataraṃ vā āpattiṃ paricchede passati. So tato suttaṃ ānetvā taṃ adhikaraṇaṃ vūpasamessati. Antarāpattiṃ olokentopi paṭilātaṃ ukkhipati āpatti dukkaṭassāti evaṃ sikkhāpadantaresu antarāpatti hoti taṃ passati. So taṃ suttaṃ ānetvā taṃ adhikaraṇaṃ vūpasamessati. Anāpattiṃ olokentopi anāpatti bhikkhu asādiyantassa atheyyacittassa namaraṇādhippāyassa anullapanādhippāyassa namocanādhippāyassa asañcicca asatiyā ajānantassāti evaṃ tasmiṃ tasmiṃ sikkhāpade niddiṭṭhaṃ anāpattiṃ passati. So taṃ suttaṃ ānetvā taṃ adhikaraṇaṃ vūpasamessati. Yo hi bhikkhu catubbidhavinayakovido tilakkhaṇasampanno imāni chaṭṭhānāni oloketvā adhikaraṇaṃ vūpasamessati tassa vinicchayo apaṭivattiyo buddhena sayaṃ nisīditvā vinicchitasadiso hoti. Tañce evaṃ vinicchayakusalaṃ bhikkhuṃ koci katasikkhāpadavītikkamo bhikkhu upasaṅkamitvā attano kukkuccaṃ puccheyya tena sādhukaṃ sallakkhetvā sace anāpatti hoti anāpattīti vattabbaṃ. Sace panāpatti hoti āpattīti vattabbaṃ. Sā desanāgāminī ce desanāgāminīti vattabbaṃ. Vuṭṭhānagāminī ce vuṭṭhānagāminīti vattabbaṃ. Athassa

Pārājikacchāyā dissati pārājikāpattīti na vattabbaṃ. Kasmā. Methunadhammavītikkamo hi uttarimanussadhammavītikkamo ca oḷāriko. Adinnādānamanussaviggahavītikkamā pana sukhumā cittalahukā te sukhumeneva āpajjati sukhumena rakkhati. Tasmā visesena taṃ vatthukaṃ kukkuccaṃ pucchiyamāno āpattīti avatvā sacassa ācariyo dharati tato tena so bhikkhu amhākaṃ ācariyaṃ pucchāti pesetabbo. Sace so punāgantvā tumhākaṃ ācariyo suttantato vinayato oloketvā satekicchoti maṃ āhāti vadati tato tena so sādhu suṭṭhu yaṃ ācariyo bhaṇati taṃ karohīti vattabbo. Atha panassa ācariyo natthi saddhiuggahitatthero pana atthi tassa santikaṃ pesetabbo amhehi sahauggahitatthero gaṇapāmokkho taṃ gantvā pucchāti. Tenāpi satekicchoti vinicchite sādhu suṭṭhu tasseva vacanaṃ karohīti vattabbo. Athassa saddhiuggahitattheropi natthi antevāsiko paṇḍito atthi tassa santikaṃ pesetabbo asukaṃ daharaṃ gantvā pucchāti. Tenāpi satekicchoti vinicchite sādhu suṭṭhu tassa vacanaṃ karohīti vattabbo. Atha daharassāpi pārājikacchāyāva upaṭṭhāti tenāpi pārājikosīti na vattabbo. Dullabho hi buddhuppādo tato dullabhatarā pabbajjā ca upasampadā ca. Evaṃ pana vattabbaṃ vivittaṃ okāsaṃ sammajjitvā divāvihāraṃ nisīditvā sīlāni sodhetvā dvattiṃsākāraṃ tāva manasi karohīti. Sace tassa arogaṃ sīlaṃ kammaṭṭhānaṃ ghaṭiyati saṅkhārā pākaṭā

Hutvā upaṭṭhahanti upacārappanāppattaṃ viya cittaṃ ekaggaṃ hoti divasaṃ atikkantampi na jānāti. So divasātikkame upaṭṭhānaṃ āgato evaṃ vattabbo kīdiso te cittappavattīti. Ārocitāya ca cittappavattiyā vattabbo pabbajjā nāma cittavisuddhatthā appamatto samaṇadhammaṃ karohīti. Yassa pana sīlaṃ bhinnaṃ hoti tassa kammaṭṭhānaṃ na ghaṭiyati paṭodābhitunnaṃ viya cittaṃ vikampati vipaṭisāragginā dayhati tattapāsāṇe nisinno viya taṃ khaṇaṃyeva vuṭṭhāti. So āgato kā te cittappavattīti pucchitabbo. Ārocitāya cittappavattiyā natthi loke raho nāma pāpakammaṃ pakubbato sabbapaṭhamaṃ hi pāpaṃ karonto attanāva jānāti athassa ārakkhadevatā paracittavidū samaṇabrāhmaṇā aññe ca devatā jānanti tvaṃyeva dāni tava sotthiṃ pariyesāhīti vattabbo. Niṭṭhitā catubbidhavinayakathā vinayadharassa ca lakkhaṇādikathā.
